tim barnwell is a commercial and fine art photographer based in asheville, north carolina. his career has spanned over 25 years as both a professional photographer and a photography instructor, including eight years as executive director of the nationally recognized school, appalachian photographic workshops (1980-1988).mr. barnwells fine art work has been included in dozens of group and one man shows both in the united states and abroad, and is widely collected. his prints are in the permanent collections of the metropolitan museum, the new orleans museum of art, the high museum in atlanta, the mint museum in charlotte, r.j. reynolds industries, the soho photo gallery in new york, the newark museum of art and the bank of america corporate collection.his images have been widely published, appearing in dozens of magazines including time, newsweek, southern accents, house beautiful, american craft, outdoor photographer, sky and telescope, us air, blue ridge country, u.s. news and world report, billboard, travel south, american style, black & white magazine, lenswork and national parks.he is the author of three books, the face of appalachia, on earths furrowed brow and hands in harmony
